Weaving The Elements

The Materials

Four materials. Four stories. One standard: nothing leaves this earth without purpose.

Natural Fibers

NaturalHarvestedHeritage

Longevity • 10–15 years with care

Why we chose it - They’re biodegradable and strong, ideal for furniture that’s both eco-conscious and resilient.

How we use it - We twist them into ropes or weave them into seats and mats, relying on their natural tensile strength for long-lasting designs.

Multi-Layer Plastic (MLP)

UpcycledIndustrial wasteIntercepted

Longevity • 50+ years

Why we chose it - MLP is notoriously hard to recycle, so using it gives it a second life while reducing landfill waste.

How we use it - We clean, shred, and repurpose MLP into robust cords and ropes. These then become the structural core for our furniture or decorative items, giving a modern, durable finish to our products.

Cotton Textile Scraps

UpcycledPre-consumerFast fashion waste

Longevity • 5–10 years depending on use

Why we chose it - It’s soft, versatile, and abundant perfect for adding color, texture, and function.

How we use it - Scraps are shredded into threads, then twisted into ropes or stuffed into cushions. The result is sustainable, handcrafted textile products that celebrate every bit of fabric.

Textile waste is no different. India's garment export industry is among the largest in the world — and every production run leaves behind a mountain of offcuts, trimmings, and surplus fabric that the formal recycling system has no clean answer for.

Every kilogram we use means a direct reduction in the carbon that would otherwise be released burning it.

An average Sirohi product is made from 6.5 kg of waste or natural material.

India generates over 3.3 million metric tons of plastic waste every year. Of that, Multi-Layer Plastic — the shiny, crinkly stuff your chips and chocolate come in — is the most difficult to deal with. It's made of fused layers of aluminium, polyethylene, and paper that cannot be mechanically separated. Recycling plants won't take it. Municipal systems burn it. The rest chokes waterways and landfills for hundreds of years.

Ready to Weave

Waste is sourced from garment units, packaging factories, supermarkets, and recycling centers across North India, using only pre-consumer industrial waste to ensure zero contamination.

Plastics are shredded into strips. Textile scraps are cut into threads. Natural fibres are combed and separated. This is where raw material begins to understand what it might become.

Here, the Gandhi Charkha comes into play. Strips and threads are spun on adapted wheels, twisting multiple strands into a single, stable rope.

This is what sets our ropes apart. Each is hand-tensioned by artisans, adjusting twist, thickness, and knots by feel for strength, flexibility, and durability.

The rope is ready. And now it meets the hands that have been waiting for it.

The Human Touch

Our artisans possess a centuries-old eye for tension and weave. They don't rely on machines to dictate the flow; they adjust the thickness, the twist angle, and the knot placement entirely by hand.

By blending industrial resilience with traditional weaving techniques, we achieve the ultimate balance: aesthetic beauty, flexibility, and a long-term durability that outlasts conventional painted woods.

Meet Our Artisans

Sustainability isn't a buzzword for us.

It's a rigorous, multi-step mechanism happening right under our watchful eyes. We intercept our materials directly from the source—garment manufacturing hubs and local packaging units that would otherwise send this "waste" to landfills.

2,500+
Livelihoods Supported

Over the past decade, Sirohi has created sustainable income opportunities for more than 2,500 artisans across India. Through consistent orders, design training, and market access, artisans are able to build reliable livelihoods while continuing traditional craft practices within their communities.

Craft Clusters Across India

Our artisan network spans five states across India, connecting rural craft clusters to national and global markets. By working closely with these communities, we help preserve traditional weaving techniques while creating modern design-led products that generate long-term income.

90%+
Women Artisan Workforce

More than 90% of Sirohi’s artisan network are women from marginalised communities. Through skill development, steady work opportunities, and fair wages, they gain financial independence and the confidence to support their families and become leaders within their communities.

40%
Higher Average Wages

Sirohi artisans earn on average 40% higher wages compared to traditional craft work. By combining thoughtful design, consistent production orders, and fair pricing, we ensure artisans are compensated fairly for their skills while building more stable economic futures.

The Material Is The Message.

Every rope twisted at Rukanpur is a vote against the landfill. Every basket woven from Moonj grass is a vote for the woman who harvested it. Every MLP wrapper transformed into furniture is a vote against a system that decided something unrecyclable was also worthless.

We disagree. And we have the products to prove it.
